Cheap Way to Malacca from Kuala Lumpur

Hi there, this post will tell you my last trip to Malacca (Melaka) from Kuala Lumpur (KL) with limited budget, maybe not the cheapest but still convenient  way to do. This story will start from KL Sentral so when you stay far from there maybe there is a better way to do it.

Part I: KL Sentral – TBS (Terminal Bersepadu Selatan)

Firstly we need to go to TBS since i will take a bus from there, if your stay have nearer bus terminal for example Bukit Bintang will easier to go from Puduraya terminal.

The easiest way is to take KLIA Transit from KL Sentral station which will take you directly go to Bandar Tasik Selatan station which is integrated with Terminal Bersepadu Selatan (TBS) in 1 stop which will cost RM6.5.

There is a cheaper way to get there by KTM from KL Sentral and get off at Bandar Tasik Selatan with around 4 stops and cost around RM2.40 or RapidKL train Kelana Jaya line to Masjid Jamek then change to Ampang line to Bandar Tasik Selatan, this way will cost you around RM4. Or if you familiar with taking cheaper transportation such as public bus then it surely cheaper but i won’t suggest for first timer tourist since you need to know which bus you need to take and where you need to press the stop button.

Part II: Terminal Bersepadu Selatan (TBS) to Melaka Sentral

TBS is the new bus terminal which planned to replace the old puduraya, from here you can go mostly to all places in Malaysia Peninsular or even Singapore and southern Thailand. After arrive at Bandar Tasik Selatan station, get off and go upstairs for crossing bridge to TBS main terminal building.

Just look for the ticketing counter and buy ticket to Melaka Sentral, in my case i take KKKL Express bus which cost around RM15.00. If you plan to go with big group or in the peak holiday season it will be better to buy ticket before your departure date, some of the bus operator already have online ticketing system or get from third-party bus online ticket seller.

After you have the ticket, ask for which departure gate you have to wait (similar with airport system) and just wait there. Mostly the bus won’t get on time since they usually originally depart from puduraya and stop at TBS before continuing the trip.

Bus to Melaka Sentral takes around 2.5 hours trip without stop so if you need to go to toilet or buy some snacks for the trip do it at TBS.

Part III: Melaka Sentral to Bangunan Merah (Dutch Square)

At Melaka Sentral, you will arrived at interstate terminal then you need to go look for domestic terminal for the city bus Panorma Melaka. To go to Dutch Square (Bangunan Merah) you can take the bus from platform 17 (Melaka Sentral to Ujong Pasir) which cost RM2.00 or take a taxi for around RM10.00.

This bus will stop at Dutch Square in front of Malaysia Youth Museum which also in the Dutch Square. Don’t worry too much if you don’t know where to get off because mostly people will get off at that time. After that the bus will go to Dataran Pahlawan where the shopping mall and hotels mostly located at so if you plan to stay at Malacca and book a hotel near there you also can take this bus.

From Dutch Square you can go to several places with walking distance such as Jonker Walk (across the river), Muzium Samudera and Melaka River Cruise. If you need some tourism information, there is a information center near the bridge and you can get a free map or ask any questions there.

Summary

KL Sentral to TBS: RM2.40 – 6.50
TBS to Melaka Sentral: RM10.00 – 15.00
Melaka Sentral to Dutch Square: RM2.00 – 10.00

Total one-way: RM14.40 – 31.5
Total return: RM28.80 – 63.00

      Hi,

To reach bukit bintang you may want to get bus that also stops at Pudu raya (please ask the bus operator) and take taxi or just walk to bukit bintang.
